About Jim

After undergraduate study in sociology and abnormal psychology at UCLA, I decided to enter the corporate world of commercial real estate finance and private equity (it’s a long story). I spent several years in those industries, building a successful and lucrative career—but one in which I felt pervasively unfulfilled.

I began volunteering in the field of suicide prevention for older adults, and found deep satisfaction in helping individuals to develop new perspectives on their lives, and craft life narratives that imbued their lives with meaning and a sense of redemption. Ultimately, I felt compelled to leave my career behind, to acknowledge and pursue the passion that had inspired me years before: to help others to create and maintain, rich, meaningful, and deeply satisfying lives. In the process, I am doing the same for myself.

In 2013, I founded the Right Life Project®, with the mission of helping people cultivate wellbeing in all areas of their lives, including the psychological, physical, social, vocational, and ethical dimensions of them, and integrate them, in order to achieve the richest, most fulfilling lives possible. The Right Life Project also emphasizes working with one's life narrative, and the cultivation of mindfulness, compassion, and other intangible qualities that are supportive of whole-life wellbeing.

I hold a BA from UCLA in Sociology and Abnormal Psychology and an MSW from USC, with a concentration in Systems of Recovery from Mental Illness. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California (LCSW 63567) and was awarded the Certified Mindfulness Facilitator designation by the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior (MARC). I am also an Authorized Teacher of MARC's Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs) curriculum.
